This method provides a simple, rapid, and effective means of evaluating average residual stresses in electrodeposited nickel, a condition found to have significant effect on the performance many electrodeposits. It was developed by the GM Research Laboratories. With some modification of the formula used for calculating stresses, the method is applicable to plated coatings other than nickel.
