This test, sometimes referred to as the Shell Roller Test, is a means for measuring the mechanical stability, or the tendency of a lubricating grease to liquefy while in service. It provides a numerical evaluation of the change in consistency of a sample of the grease caused by the kneading or working action of a weighted roller enclosed (with the sample) in a cylinder which rotates at a specified speed for a specified time.
