1 SCOPE.

This standard provides a system for specifying significant properties of seal materials used in radial lip seals. The requirements for O-Rings are described in ASTM D1414. It is based on the principle that for critical parts such as seals, it is desirable to specify the type of compound as well as mechanical properties of the compound; and to base as many properties as possible on measurements made on actual parts (or on sections taken from parts), and on standard tests customized to more nearly simulate the service environment of the seal under consideration.
