1 SCOPE.
This standard provides a method of selecting rational or practical metric sizes and tolerances of wrought metals when considering common engineering shapes such as sheet, strip, bands and various bar shapes. It is beyond the scope of this standard to include all speciality items, but only those shapes or forms commonly used in the Corporation. The purpose of listing standard metric sizes and tolerances is to provide a basis for engineering departments to select sizes on a uniform basis that will help control inventory, result in economies, and be readily available to low volume (tonnage) sources such as, tool rooms, maintenance departments, pilot builds, and outside sources.
