This standard defines basic requirements for five "chemical grades" of cast iron scrap as produced in turning, boring, and drilling operations on castings. Supplied loose for use in foundry iron charges, such material is commonly referred to as "Cast Iron Borings." Supplied after compacting, such material is commonly referred to as "Cast Iron Briquettes."
Purchaser specifies "Soft Gray Iron," "Cylinder Gray Iron," "Camshaft Gray Iron," "Nodular Iron," or "Malleable Iron," and "Loose" or "Briquetted" by use of suffix symbol as follows:
