1 SCOPE.

This specification describes the requirements for a grade of low carbon hot rolled steel sheet, or low carbon cold rolled sheet steel either semikilled or killed. This material will be used for parts that are to be case hardened after fabrication. The steel is specially stabilized to minimize grain coarsening in cold worked areas of the parts during heat treatment, and has low hardenability to produce parts with ductile core properties. 1.1 When specifying material state the GM number followed by either hot rolled steel sheet or cold rolled steel sheet.
