1 SCOPE.

This specification covers the requirements for low carbon continuously cast steel sheet for exposed and unexposed applications and is applicable for all low carbon steel sheet product and coated product substrate. 1.1 The grade is based on formability, and the finish is specified by a suffix, an integer and alpha characters, added to the base specification number. The forming grade will designate the chemical and mechanical requirements as prescribed in Table 1 and Table 2. The finish type, alpha character, will designate the surface finish, defined as E (exposed) or U (unexposed). For example: GM6409M - CR4E or HR3U. A third suffix (C) may be added after the finish to designate low carbon steelmaking.
