1 Scope

This standard covers the performance and approval requirements for three classes of soft interior trim parts. The class shall be indicated on the part drawing in addition to the specification number (i.e., GM7454M Type A). Two (2) typical part constructions are utilized: an appearance skin supported by a retainer and an appearance skin on a foam filler supported by a retainer. An ionomer film is sometimes used between the foam and the retainer. The surface skin may also be painted. (Paint is sometimes needed in order to meet the color, gloss and/or durability requirements.) These requirements are intended mainly to evaluate the skin/filler performance. Additional requirements may be added for the retainer materials.
