This method of test is designed to indicate the volatility characteristics of lubricants, particularly engine oils. It is a particularly useful test method for the evaluation of oils with respect to engine rumble requirements.
Volatility characteristics of lubricating oil may also be determined by vacuum distillation; however, this method does not indicate the effect of oxidation on the volatility response of lubricants.
