This method describes an atomic absorption procedure for determining manganese in gasolines containing methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl. It is applicable to concentrations from 2.5 to 80 mg/L.
The gasoline sample is diluted with n-octanol. Bromine is added to decompose the manganese compound. Manganese is extracted with dilute hydrochloric acid solution and determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry.
