This test method is used to determine the amount of carbon black in nylon 6 and nylon 66. In this procedure the nylon is hydrolyzed to soluble products with hydrochloric acid and the carbon residue is separated by filtration. Formic acid is used to dissolve traces of unhydrolyzed nylon or similar insolubles. The carbon black, which remains undissolved, is filtered off, dried and weighed.
