This procedure describes a nondestructive X-Ray Fluorescent method to be used when measuring the thickness of gold deposits on automotive decorative trim. This method can also be used to measure thickness of other plated deposits and protective clearcoats. Since the accuracy of this method is 5% or better, alternate methods with reduced accuracy should not be used to determine gold thicknesses.

This method requires calibration which should be performed at the interval recommended by the manufacturer.
