This specification describes the requirements for ultra soft cellular materials to be used as a seal against air, dust and/or water. This material may also be used for certain applications as a silencer or as a flexible material for covering gaps, openings and other non-sealing type applications.
These foams are softer than GM6086M Type 1A foams.
Typical Application. Typical applications include: lighting gaskets, HVAC gaskets, weatherstrip and IP's.
Remarks.
Certain applications may require the use of an adhesive. If an adhesive is required, an ADH Suffix shall be added after the basic specification.
Certain interior parts will require a low friction coating to reduce friction or grab between the seal and the substrate. When this coating is required, a CO suffix shall be added after the specification.
Note: To properly use GMN11101, the following information must be added to the engineering drawing.
Specify material, e.g. Nitrile, EPDM, etc.
Specify density with tolerance.
Indicate the ADH or CO suffix if an adhesive or low friction coating shall be used.
Identify application, such as interior, exterior or underhood. There are specific tests required for each use.
Specify surface appearance and dimensions using current RMA requirements (see Note), as agreed upon between engineering and the supplier.
