This standard covers the process of getting a plater approved to General Motors for both metal and plastic plating criterion. The plater must get approval for each combination of substrate material, material supplier, finish and facility. In addition, some quality control tests are specified.

Material Description. The entire Class A surface of part is to meet specification.

Typical Applications. For all plated parts which include, but not limited to chrome, satin finishes. Primarily for decorative exterior and interior application.

Remarks. Once a plater is approved for a specific combination, a GM Trim Transmittal will be completed to support the Tier 1 Part Production Approval Process (PPAP). The combination will also be listed in GM Supply Power website to support this and future applications. One (1) combination approval can be used for different part geometries with the same combination.

The intent of this process is to provide purchasing a list of suppliers who demonstrated that GM's plating specification can be met using the material, finish and facility.

Note: The approval is given using only one geometry, so all parts must demonstrate through testing that specification is met for PPAP.
