1 Scope
This document describes gas welding procedures and process details for repair of engine block castings segregated at the foundry. Only unpainted, unmachined castings may be welded and only in areas designated in the casting supplier's process control plan. In general, areas that may be considered for repair include block front and rear faces, waterjacket walls, crankcase walls, bosses (full diameter), spotting pads and sump flange. Restrictions and limitations to these and other locations are detailed in the Appendix and in the supplier's control plan. Casting porosity which conforms to agreed upon porosity standards must not be repair welded. The process control plan and porosity standards must be approved by the GMPT Design Responsible Engineer.
