Purpose. The purpose of this procedure is to provide instructions for performing objective squeak and rattle subsystem and component testing. This test is intended to subject the subsystem or component to vibration profiles comparable to in-vehicle vibration, and provide an objective measure of squeak and rattle performance. 

Applicability. This procedure is applicable to any automotive subsystem or component where squeaks and rattles are a concern and the vibration environment can be simulated in a laboratory environment. 

Remarks. This test is limited to detecting vibration induced noises excited by inputs above 8 Hz. Squeaks or itches excited only by slow body twist (cross ditches or driveways) will not be addressed by this test. Additionally, impact type vibrations caused by a door, hood or rear compartment lid slam cannot be addressed by this test.
