Introduction
The scope of this specification is to clearly communicate the GM Materials Engineering requirements to the supplier during quotation process. Each statement of requirement (SOR) for a part, component or subsystem will reference specifications to ensure that the part(s) being quoted are correct and that the material is suitable for the application. Specifications can include materials specifications and/or performance specifications. These two appendices are required in the SOR package and contain the Materials Engineering Requirements:
• Appendix F9: Use GMW14270 (this document), Materials Engineering Requirements, which lists standard requirements and standard call-outs.
• Appendix F10: Materials Engineering Requirements, which lists program specific requirements for a given part or component.
• Note: Powertrain does not use the same SOR process that other GM Engineering Centers do. They do not require that an Appendix F10 document be issued, instead materials requirements are incorporated with the Product Engineering requirements in Appendix C. Other regions however have non Powertrain employees specifying materials for Powertrain parts. Engineers releasing new Powertrain parts for new designs must contact a GMPT Materials Engineer to determine preferred materials.
Both SOR Appendix F9 and SOR Appendix F10 shall be referenced/included in the SOR package.
Note: In the case of specification conflicts within the SOR, the appendices C1, C2, and/or C should be reconciled with SOR Appendix F10. If questions arise pertaining to discrepancies, contact the GM Materials Engineer.
