Purpose.
The purpose of this test procedure is to determine if passenger motor vehicles meet the requirements of:
• FMVSS 202 as published 12/14/2004.
• CMVSS 202 as published 08/13/2003.
• Australian Design Rule, ADR 22.
• Korean Motor Vehicle Safety and Performance Standard, KMVSS Article 99, Head Restraint.
• Europe Economic Committee, EEC 78/932.
• Economic Commission for Europe Regulation, ECE R17.
• Economic Commission for Europe Regulation, ECE R25.
Note for ECE: According to the Addendum 24 to ECE R25, Revision 1 Corrigendum 1 (9th October 1992), "The head restraints of category M1 vehicles which conform to the provisions of Regulation No.17 are not required to conform to the provisions of this (ECE R25) regulation".
Note: The test procedure described below comprises only partially the scope of the European regulation listed above.
Foreword.
Compliance to FMVSS 202 may alternately be demonstrated with a dynamic test not described in this procedure.
Applicability.
This procedure applies to all GM passenger vehicles, light duty and medium duty trucks with gross vehicle weighting rate of 4536 kg (10 000 lb) or below.
This test procedure applies also to European motor vehicles of the category M1, if not stated otherwise in the regulations mentioned in 2.1. It serves for product validation with reference to vehicle safety.
