Purpose.

To assess damage extent and repair cost when a vehicle is subjected to four impacts as conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Foreword.

This specification establishes requirements and test procedure for impact resistance of a vehicle in the low speed front and rear collisions. It is intended to provide the process and methodology for the assessment of low speed bumper impact damage which is consistent with the procedure used by IIHS, and consistent within GM across all vehicle lines.

Applicability.

This procedure applies to passenger cars as deemed appropriate by the individual program.
