This specification identifies all types of microperforated acoustic films and their use with decoupler materials.
Material Description. A thermoplastic film with holes of uniform diameter which are distributed in a uniform pattern across the film surface. This film is typically combined with fibrous materials or fibrous and barrier materials to produce dissipative or dissipative barrier composite constructions.
Class 1 Polyolefin Films. These films are based on polyolefin materials intended to achieve the desired end use and processing properties. These films are intended for use in interior applications where temperatures do not exceed 85 °C.
Symbols. Not applicable.
Typical Applications. These materials can be used in interior acoustic applications, such as interior front of dash and floor trim systems, but may be limited by processing and/or the temperature requirements for the application.
Fibrous Decoupler Identifications.
The fibrous decoupler material is designated by the Type Number (1 to 5) as defined in GMW14194.
Example: GMW16347 Class 1 Type 5
• GMW16347 refers to this specification.
• Class 1 refers to the perforated film.
• Type 5 refers to the fiber defined in GMW14194.
This fibrous decoupler material may also be used in conjunction with Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) materials per GMW14171 to further enhance barrier properties.
The fibrous decoupler material, when used in conjunction with the EVA materials, shall be defined as follows:
GMW16347 Class 1 with GMW14171 Class 1 Type A2.
