Purpose. This test procedure is used to address the rotor/bearing system sensitivity to bearing clearances, rotor balancing, oil supply variations, engine induced vibrations, and other turbo excitation influences. The purpose of this test is to assess the turbocharger rotor shaft behavior and turbo assembly vibration as installed on the engine.
Applicability. This test procedure is applicable to exhaust gas driven turbochargers for diesel and gasoline engines. This procedure applies to rotor shaft displacement measurement in front of the compressor, with the use of a specialized instrumentation nut and eddy current proximity sensors.
