Purpose.

This standard provides a test procedure to evaluate thermal barrier performance of thermal insulation materials for battery Thermal Runaway Propagation (TRP) mitigation application using abusive flame test methods. Abusive flame test methods are selected depending upon the application area. This standard is only applicable to compare the thermal insulation material performance to flame at a bench level. Further testing is required to prove material selection and define pass/fail criteria of thermal performance for the specific application.
