Purpose/Material Description.
Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) material is approved for Underbody Panels which have not only Aerodynamic requirements but also noise attenuation requirements. This standard covers the requirements to compression molded materials. The temperatures range that cover this standard is from -40 °C to 230 °C at continuous conditions and excursion temperature up to 300 °C. Each material must be defined by type. See 3.2.

Remarks.
This standard describes the requirements to PET material used to make panels that are attached to the underside of the vehicle and used to improve the aerodynamics of the vehicle.
Classification Types.
Materials covered by this specification are divided into two (2) types:
Type 1.
Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET). These materials have low to medium stiffness, and the materials cannot be used as single layer construction.
Type 2.
Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) with thermoset resin and Glass Fiber (GF).
