Purpose/Material Description.

This specification details the minimum performance, compatibility, and processing requirements for initial material approval of liquid topcoats on metallic substrates for interior parts. These coatings are intended to ensure adequate protection against corrosion on surfaces of internal parts of passenger and commercial vehicles. To meet the requirements of this specification, it is necessary for components to undergo a suitable cleaning process/removal operation including scale or other oxide layers. Cleaning is to be followed by an appropriate pretreatment before coating application.

Parts made with materials approved per this specification will be required to meet the performance requirements of GMW14669.

Applicability.

Two types are defined in 1.3.1 through 1.3.2, dependent upon the severity of service operation of the component.

Type I. Applies to interior components in direct sunlight, such as decorative trim and visible brackets. All Type I materials must have all specific colors approved under a trim transmittal.

Type II. Applicable to interior components, non-color matched and not in direct sunlight, such as nonvisible brackets.
