Purpose/Material Description.

Materials described in this specification are honeycomb sandwichstructured materials for rear compartment applications. The composite is made of a core material between two scrims and agglutinant foam-based material. See Figure A1 in Appendix A.

Phenolic resin-based materials are not allowed for interior applications.

Other honeycomb applications not listed in 1.4.1 Classification are not covered by this specification.

Materials intended to be used in substrate applications must also meet the assembly performance requirements per GMW14444 and corresponding applicable component Global Subsystem Technical Specification (GSSTS) requirements.

Facing materials must comply with appearance requirements and be approved under applicable GMW material specification and documented in the GRANTA system.

Applicability.

Typical applications include interior trim substrates with different covering materials, i.e., load floors and cargo cover.

Remarks.

Classification.

Honeycomb sandwich structure shall be listed by class based on application and Type per core material definition.

Class 1. Honeycomb sandwich structured intend to be used in load floors.

Class 2. Honeycomb sandwich structured intend to be used in cargo covers.

Type A. Paper honeycomb core material.

Type B. Aluminum honeycomb core material.

Type C. Polypropylene honeycomb core material.

Mass per unit area for all class and types must be specified in all engineering documents and drawings. For more reference see 8.1 Coding system in this document.
