This specification covers the qualification and performance requirements of a thermosetting, sandable, powder primer surfacer.

Purpose/Material Description.

The powder primer surfacer covered in this specification is intended to be applied and baked over an electrodeposition coating (e.g., ELPO, E-Coat, Electrocoat) prior to topcoat. The target bake for this system is 25 minutes at 177 °C (350 °F) substrate temperature.

Applicability.

The powder primer surfacer is intended to provide a smooth, adhesion promoting coating over baked electrodeposition coating. It is also intended to provide an easily sanded surface. The powder primer surfacer is typically applied by electrostatic spraying and is subsequently topcoated with high solids acrylic enamel or waterborne color coats.

Remarks.

The powder primer shall be evaluated for plant-specific material layering and processing before release for production use.
