Purpose. This standard is used to evaluate the electrostatic properties of an automobile textile by either measurement of surface resistance or measurement of the material's ability to resist accumulation of static charge.

 Summary of Test Method.

Method A - Electrostatic Resistance. Two (2) electrodes are placed onto the surface of the test specimen. A known voltage is applied to the disc electrode and the surface resistance is measured by the ring electrode.

Method B – Electrostatic Charging. After rubbing the electrically neutralized test specimen(s) with standard cloths in a prescribed manner, the resulting static charge (voltage) is measured.

Applicability. This standard is applicable to upholstery fabrics.
