1. SCOPE

This specification covers a patented chemical process for producing, by dipping, a thin, dense, uniform inorganic coating on ferrous metals (except stainless steels). The colour of the basic coating is light grey; during processing coatings may be dyed black or other colours. The process is a chemical conversion of certain proprietary zinc or manganese phosphate coatings resulting in substantially improved corrosion resistance, added lubricity, and the ability to permanently mordant certain dyes to the surface. The coating is basically an insulator, and will inhibit galvanic corrosion when treated steel parts are assembled in contact with dissimilar metals.
