1. SCOPE

This specification covers the requirements for a spray-applied body zinc phosphate coating that is dried-off prior to primer application. Specified herein are the painted product, process, laboratory performance and material requirements. This zinc phosphate conversion coating is intended to provide a crystalline corrosion-resistant, paint adhesion-promoting surface to bare steel. This zinc phosphate coating shall be used with all primers except the Elpo primer used for auto bodies. Surfaces that are phosphated in accordance with this specification and are subsequently primed (or primed and topcoated) have additional requirements listed in appropriate specifications.
