GENERAL

The road wheel castings must conform to the requirements of AS 1638, except where shown by this specification.

This specification covers the material requirements for a heat-treatable Aluminium Alloy suitable for road wheel application. The material is similar to the

AS 1874/AC601 (formerly known as CP 601) and its equivalent.

After the appropriate heat treatment and baking of the subsequent finish coating, the final material properties of the road wheels must conform to the mechanical properties shown in this specification for:

TYPE 1: Heat treatable Aluminium Alloy suitable for Cast road wheel application.

TYPE 2: As above with increased elongation at the inboard rim. Type 2 is recommended for wheels that require a high resistance to impact loads.

TYPE 3: Cast and Flowformed Rims. Type 3 uses mechanical processing (Flow forming) of inner rim before heat treatment to enhance the mechanical properties.
