GENERAL

This standard provides acceptance criteria for spot welds and resistance projection welds that will enable manufacturing to produce vehicle structures that will uniformly and consistently achieve the minimum quality requirements for welds in all areas of the vehicle.

It is the intent of this specification to provide the technical details necessary to achieve a uniformly high level of weld quality throughout the vehicle structure and in this way ensure that the majority of welds exceed the strength and quality levels warranted by normal service loading. However, in order to deal with the wide variations in severity of service loading of different components and assemblies, and compliance with Australian Design Rule and other regional legislative (eg. FMVSS) requirements, the structural classifications outlined in Section 3 apply.
