SCOPE AND PURPOSE

The PANS-AIM is complementary to the SARPs contained in Annex 15 and in Annex 4 — Aeronautical Charts. It is supplemented when necessary by regional procedures contained in the Regional Supplementary Procedures (Doc 7030).

Although the PANS-AIM is mainly directed to States (including AIS), data originators, commercial data houses of aeronautical data and aeronautical information and other users should be familiar with the procedures contained in this document.

One of the objectives of AIM is to ensure integrity of aeronautical data is maintained through the data process from survey/origination to distribution to the next intended user. The provisions and procedures in this document do not relieve the end users of aeronautical data and aeronautical information of their responsibility to ensure accuracy and integrity of aeronautical data and information received.

The PANS-AIM specifies, in greater detail than the SARPs, the actual procedures to be applied by AIM units in providing the various aeronautical information services to other States and aviation stakeholders.

The PANS-AIM includes topics that are relevant to the provision of harmonized procedures in the AIS/AIM domain, provides a framework for the delivery of uniform aeronautical information services in future AIM environments and represents a vehicle for emerging technical requirements.
