This standard provides the ability to invoke subprograms written in the Java programming language from SQL code. While similar in intent to SQL?s existing ability to invoke subprograms written in several other programming languages, this standard provides the additional value of complete portability of the subprogram code through the use of Java. This standard was developed by technical experts from several companies in the relational database community and in the Java programming language community in response to explicit industry requirements for this facility.
