PURPOSE

This standard covers the mechanical properties of steel nuts with intention of establishing the manner of selecting the properties to be provided in the standard part specifications, drawings and product specifications and also the unified manner of marking on such nuts.

Note 1. This standard covers the mechanical properties of the nuts shown in standard part specifications and drawings, which are specified according to the test methods in JIS B 1052 (Mechanical properties of fasteners – Nuts with specified proof load values) and JIS B 1056 (Prevailing torque type steel nuts -- Mechanical properties and performance); however, it should be noted that the code system for property classes and proof load stresses are different from those provided in JIS B 1052, in which proof load stresses are provided for each of the hexagon nut types.

2. This standard is a separate standard equivalent to the part 2 of ISA-M-004Y (Mechanical properties of threaded fasteners) as ISA-M-004Y is divided into two separate standards.
