This state of the art report describes principles and mechanisms of two electrochemical rehabilitation techniques for reinforced concrete structures: electrochemical realkalisation and electrochemical chloride extraction. Furthermore, possible side effects as well as examples and possibilities for application will be presented. It does not deal with cathodic protection as this technique has been already the subject of a CEN standard prepared by TC 262 (prEN 12696 'Cathodic protection of steel in concrete. Part 1. Atmospherically exposed concrete').
