GENERAL
The object of this Manual is to enable industry concerned with the manufacture of aero-engines and their accessories, ground servicing and test equipment to cooperate with the Procurement Executive, Ministry of Defence in their design, development, technical approval and manufacture.
It is Ministry of Defence policy that defence contracts should be placed only with firms whose management, technical resources and quality assurance arrangements are demonstrably adequate to provide products and services of the required quality, timescale and cost. This is assisted by assessing and registering the United Kingdom (UK) firms to the requirements of the NATO ALLIED QUALITY ASSURANCE PUBLICATIONS (AQAP'S) .
For aero-engines and related equipment, it is implicit in placing any contract containing a design element that D Eng 2 as Approval Authority has been satisfied that the contractor possesses the necessary facilities, experience and quality of staff to undertake the contract.
Part 0 of this publication gives the design responsibilities of contractors, the procedures to be followed for Type Approval, Production release, and clearance of alternative methods and sources of manufacture.
