PREFACE

AvP 70 is one of a number of documents which together instruct and guide Government contractors (and their sub-contractors), in the administrative arrangements and technical requirements pertaining to the supply of Service publications or defence equipment. Some notes on these documents are given below.

The contract

The broad policy on technical publications for Service use is stated in General Notice to Defence Contractors No 2 dated 23 February 1976. The relevant contract will indicate, normally by reference to DEF STAN 05-123 or to Technical Procedure Requirements, the range of publications and/or facilities which the contractor is to prepare or otherwise supply on the particular equipment. Alternatively or additionally, the contract may call up a particular specification in respect of the Service publications, i f this is necessary for adequate definition of requirements.

Technical Procedure Reauirements (TPR)

The principal contractual and procedural requirements for contractor-prepared Service publications are described in DEF STAN 05-123. The DEF STAN broadly describes publications procurement policies, nominates 'Publications Authorities' for each of the standard range of Service publications, defines the contractors' normal liabilities, and indicates documents such as AvP 70 where full specification of the publications content and format will be found. It also deals with issues such as delivery dates, accuracy and adequacy, and the arrangements to be made with any sub-contractors.

AvP 70 

The three AvP 70 specifications and the Supplement 1 specify the technical content, structure and format of those Service publications on defence equipment primarily for the Air Force Dept that contractors may be required to provide, as follows:

Specification 2 'Equipment publications'

Supplement 1 'Style sheets' (issued separately)
