This specification relates to four types of cellulose nitrate lacquer, the typical uses of which are:
The brushing type may be used for sealing surfaces (for example of paper), as an adhesive for textiles (including gunpowder-primed textiles), papers and celluloid to themselves and to metal, and as a gap bridging (fenestrating) varnish for sealing small holes.
The dipping types are for application by needle-dropping directly or indirectly on to the surface of initiating or detonating compositions, and by dipping, to detonators made of brass, copper or aluminium.
The spraying type is for use where application by brushing is inappropriate.
Lacquer coatings will normally be used on stores which will be protected by packages, until about to be used, or by the larger stores to which they are fitted: some of the lacquered stores have a service storage life of at least nine years and are not expected to require re-lacquering.
