Scope of DEFSTAN 00-103

DEFSTAN 00-103 describes the metadata that is to be provided for all Defence spatial data and products. This common approach supports the policy defined in JSP 465, allowing data to be discovered and used as an enterprise resource.

Where metadata is required, all Defence platforms and systems should consume and emit MGMP 2 metadata in accordance with this standard unless a formal exemption has been granted by the Foundation GEOINT Board.

This edition of DEFSTAN 00-103 builds upon the previous edition by expanding MGMP to cater for a wider range of user requirements. This profile complements Defence and wider Government metadata standards for information and provides specific geospatial provisions along with corporate content2 in a single encoding.
