This Section of the Standard provides general guidance for the development of workplaces. The workplace is considered as the complete working environment in which all operators and equipments are arranged to function as a unit. The unit could be a land, sea or air system, either static or mobile. In terms of the human operator, the important concepts of structural and dynamic anthropometry are discussed, outlining the physical limitations of people within the workplace and workspace envelope. Also included are general considerations associated with working positions and postures within the operational environment. Much of the available data is specific to certain types of workplace, and could be quite different from those pertaining to vehicle or static consoles. (It is strongly recommended that, in layouts of any degree of complexity, a human factors specialist suitably qualified in military ergonomics should be consulted).
