Factors affecting face-to-face and electronically assisted speech communication are discussed.

This document also describes how to predict, measure and assess speech intelligibility in a given noise environment.

This document applies solely to the case where talker and listener are communicating in the Standard atmosphere down to Sea level. Communication by divers breathing a helium rich atmosphere is specifically excluded.
