This Defence Standard is designed to offer guidance, on the principles of progressive assurance and the R&M Case and, using examples, how these principles might be tailored to support the contention of assurance for different programmes.

The role of the Standard is to provide the building blocks to assist those concerned with assurance to understand how to adapt appropriate principles, primarily from BS 5760-18:2010, in order that suitable evidence and argument can be presented.

In all cases the requirement(s) must be demonstrable, through analyses and trials if appropriate, using the R&M Case methodology.If not it is likely that achievement of the requirement cannot be verified/validated and/or the User will lack confidence in the delivered solution.

This Standard contains a number of examples based on the principles specified in BS 5760-18:2010. Each example is examined to provide guidance on how the variations in their content might affect and be utilised to support compliance of the R&M requirements.

The examples, being generic in origin, are not designed to be used in their current form; they represent only a small sample of the scope and options available for presenting evidence and argument in support R&M achievement.
