This INTERIM Defence Standard establishes a system for providing guidance in planning a cost effective obsolescence management process for all technologies and is applicable throughout all phases of an equipment's life. It is primarily targeted towards electronic, electrical and els:etre-mechanical components, although it could be extended generally to cover other technologies/products. It excludes the treatment of software obsolescence (covered in Def Stan 00-60).
Obsolescence Management covers the following areas:
Legacy Equipment - i.e equipment in-service.
Technology Insertion - i.e. performance updates to legacy equipment (utilising developing technologies).
New equipment.
