This Defence Standard (DEF STAN) is applicable to all HM Surface Ships and Royal Fleet Auxiliaries (RFA). It defines the requirements for providing ventilation, air–conditioning and equipment cooling in surface ships, the standards to which the various systems associated with these functions are to be designed, manufactured and installed.
The requirements for air–conditioning, ventilating, purging and air purification in HM Submarines are covered by DEF STAN 08-159 Part 2.
