This document details watertight integrity requirements applicable to new design and current classes; defines the watertight envelope, hazards, modes of failure, design principles to minimise the likelihood and consequences of loss of watertight integrity along with through life testing and inspection requirements.

Design responsibilities are considered in the light of the implications of DSA02-DMR Defence Maritime Regulations for Health, Safety and Environmental Protection and DSA03-DMR Naval Authority Rules for Certification of MOD Shipping.

This document does not consider collapse of the pressure hull as a watertight integrity issue; hull design is covered by MAP 01-074 and Defence Standard 09-50. Neither does it consider spaces external to the pressure hull.
