This Defence Standard specifies the general requirements for, and gives guidance on, the procurement of pumps and eductors for machinery installations in HM Surface Ships and Submarines with the following exceptions:

Pumps for hydraulic systems;

Pumps which are integral and indispensable assemblies of equipments (e.g. fuel injection pumps on diesel engines) and which are to conform to the requirements of the relevant equipment Defence Standard or similar specification;

Reactor Main Coolant Pumps;

All test pumps.

This Defence Standard includes the minimum requirements for:

Operating conditions and operating environment;

Inspection, Quality Assurance and Testing.
