This standard specifies the requirements for the general design and manufacturing requirements for valves and actuators for fluid systems in surface ships and submarines.

This standard covers valves for both High Pressure (HP) and Low Pressure (LP) fluid systems, however specific requirements for valves in HP Air Systems can be found in Def Stan 02-314.

Valve types to be used, characteristic features and duties of valves particular to any system will be given in the standard for the system as in the ship procurement specification.
