This NES states the methods that are to be adopted for the design of Surface Ships Internal Voice Communications Systems.

The following areas are covered: 

General System Requirements (Section 4). This Section outlines some of the ship functions supported by internal communications. It gives guidance to the types of communications links likely to be required in each area. b. System Characteristics (Section 5). This Section gives the parameters that the chosen systems are required to meet.

Procedures for System Planning (Section 6). Procedures are discussed which have the object of ensuring that the systems are designed to meet the users' needs.

System Evaluation (Section 7). Inspections, functional tests and checks are described which are to be used to validate the specification, design, installation and operation of the equipment.

Annexes to the NES cover the special requirements of specific Internal Communications areas which are not addressed i n the above sections.
