This Defence Standard (Def Stan), in conjunction with the documents referred to herein, specifies the requirements for lighting systems to be used on HM Surface Ships in the presence of night vision devices (NVDs). Although principally aimed at aviation capable ships it is also applicable to any ship operating in the vicinity of aircraft on NVD operations, such as RFAs, and to other vessels where NVDs might be used, such as during night time amphibious operations.
