This NES is applicable to the design, development and testing of Prototype or Production Control and Surveillance equipment for Platform Propulsion Machinery and its Ancillaries, and Auxiliary Plant and Systems sponsored by the Ministry of Defence for fitting in Surface Ships. This NES:

is arranged to assist in the preparation of a statement of Technical Requirements (STR) in accordance with the general structure given in NES 8;

may also be used in conjunction sscp 27 to define design and construction requirements for equipment forming part of a Machinery Control and Surveillance (MCAS) system (in which case Sections 7 to 15 of this NES are particularly relevant);

is suitable for use by either a MOD (PE) or Prime Contractor specified;

Does not refer to control and surveillance requirements for power supply system, weapon systems, workshop machinery or domestic equipment;

Does not apply to equipment's associated with Concept or Feasibility Study contracts. These contracts require information specific to the equipment under development which will be detailed In the STR applicable to the Contract. Design Sponsors seeking information for equipment concept or feasibility studies should consult DGME/ME346.
